The number of Cameroonian athletes missing at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games rose from three to eight on Wednesday, as Games officials expressed concern over their safety.

Five boxers and three weightlifters from the country were said to have left the athlete village since Sunday, with some of them not even turning up for competition, as they were scheduled to.

Three weightlifters and two boxers have not been seen since Tuesday, while another three have since gone missing, including boxer Christelle Ndiang, who disappeared after losing her bout to Australian Skye Nicholson on Tuesday.

Mitch Larkin has said the comparison to Ian Thorpe after winning his fifth Gold Coast Commonwealth Games gold medal is phenomenal as his competitors praised is achievements.

"Nobody said anything, they did not give any condition, they just left", he said.

Nso said team officials had notified Australian police.

The 35-year-old, who was a bronze medalist at the 2012 London Olympics, will face Wales' Kristina O'Hara for the gold medal.

The Australian police and security services were immediately alerted about their disappearance as the search intensifies to track them down.

However, things would get mixed up when Ronda finally got a pinfall on Stephanie only to get yanked out of the ring by Triple H . That didn't sit well with Ronda as she eventually was able to make it back into the ring and taunted "The Game" to step to her.

"But this is obviously an issue that Team Cameroon is monitoring very, very closely".

Gold Coast organising committee chairman Peter Beattie said he wasn't surprised and it was something that happened at other games.

The former sprinter said that the home-based athletes should be given more consideration in the area of financial remuneration.

Six of the eight athletes in question are men, but two of the missing are women.

The Commonwealth Games Federation said it would monitor the situation but athletes had "the right to travel freely" on their visas.

A spokesman for the Australian Border Force said the federal government was working closely with the Games organising committee and worldwide stakeholders to ensure officials and athletes were aware of their visa responsibilities.

But with the Roses having topped their group they should avoid playing hot favourites and reigning champions Australia, who play Jamaica later on Wednesday, in the last four on Saturday.
