De Bruyne grateful for Silva as City pair achieve gold standard

Improving Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah are English soccer's two standout stars this season, seemingly going head to head for the country's Player of the Year award.

Salah is the Premier League's top scorer with 29 goals.

Having already won the Carabao Cup in January, De Bruyne and City can seal a first league crown since 2014-15 with a victory against Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium (5.30pm) tomorrow evening.

The Egypt global has been just as impressive in the Champions League, his opener in Wednesday's 3-0 quarter-final first-leg victory over Manchester City taking his tally in the European competition to eight, though the performance lost a little lustre as a result of Salah departing with an injury.

And though De Bruyne has recently revealed he has voted for Reds talisman Salah to claim the accolade, he believes his performances make him a strong contender.

"The volume is always up", said De Bruyne, City's player of the season, who has driven their title challenge with ruthless brilliance throughout.

Sugar tax: anti-obesity measure takes effect
MailOnline has today broken down what the sugar tax means to consumers - calculating roughly how much prices will go up. Diabetes UK, through its key role in the Obesity Health Alliance, has been a vocal supporter of the policy.

"At Chelsea, he didn't play too much but in Roma he was unbelievable — every game he created a lot of chances but sometimes missed", Guardiola said Tuesday.

"Obviously it's not nice if you see windows breaking, that's not a good thing, but I think if supporters do that (line streets in support) without being violent then I think it's OK". I think he is up there with (Harry) Kane, me and David (Silva). I'm not really that type of person who thinks about that. No-one is going to play all the time at that age.

De Bruyne has played a major part. "I don't look at what happened before, I wouldn't know how to choose anybody else, outside of Salah, if it's not our team". He helps us a lot.

"If they go through and they deserve it, that's the way it goes". I don't mind supporters doing that - I've had it a couple of times for my team and it's a nice feeling.

"But every manager will have had a lot of players who were not suited with each other, who went away and did well".
