Bristow had been at the event at the Echo Arena earlier in the night but had left the arena and was reportedly walking back to his auto when he collapsed from the heart attack, later dying in hospital.

Fittingly, Bristow was amongst the crowd at the Echo Arena, Liverpool for the latest round of the Premier League Darts when he died, in and around the arrows fans who so admired him during his pomp when he reeled in five British Darts Organisation world titles in a golden spell between 1980 and 1986. More recently, when he hung up his arrows he turned his hand to media, frequently appearing on Sky Sports and offering expert insights on the game as it turned into a true global sport.

Nigel Pearson, sports broadcaster and writer from Wombourne, who worked alongside Bristow also shared his tribute to the 60-year-old.

The British darts champion Eric Bristow has died, the sport's United Kingdom governing body announced Thursday night.

Bristow was known in the game as the Crafty Cockney, a nickname he picked up not in his native Hackney, but rather during a visit to an English-themed pub of the same name in Santa Monica, California.

Apple Snags Former Google AI Chief To Make Siri More Powerful
There are surely more applications of machine learning planned in the future; Giannandrea would likely spearhead those efforts. Apple is now looking to hire more than 150 people to staff its Siri team, a recruiting boom that did not go unnoticed .

Deller, who shocked the darts world when he beat Bristow in the 1982 BDO World Championship final, said he was "devastated" by the news. He said what he thought and it was his honest opinion. Everyone loved Eric for that. We will never forget you.

"He understood what crowds wanted to see - he was controversial, he was a maverick, he spoke his mind and upset a few people from time to time, but the man in the street warmed to him because he was very much one of theirs".

"When you look at the big stars we have produced in Britain, Eric Bristow is right up at the top". They can show off and think that they've got it, but Eric had it.

A whole host of current and former players paid tribute to Bristow on Twitter. My thought are with his family at this sad time.

Three-time world champion John Lowe tweeted: "I didn't want to share this message, Eric has passed away, my rival, my friend, my drinking pal, lost a part of my life tonight". Get Me Out Of Here in 2012.
