President Donald Trump came to Sinclair's defense in a pair of tweets, one of which said: "The Fake News Networks, those that knowingly have a sick and biased AGENDA, are anxious about the competition and quality of Sinclair Broadcast". Sinclair owns almost 200 local TV stations and has ordered its anchors to read a statement expressing concern about "one-sided news stories plaguing the country".

In the wake of the controversy surrounding Sinclair Broadcasting for forcing their local news anchors to read from a script about "biased and false news", which is basically repeating talking (err, screaming) points from President Trump, many are questioning why the these journalists don't just quit.

The script said "some outlets publish fake stories without checking facts first, and some people in the media push their own biases to control exactly what people think. This is extremely risky to a democracy".

Tribune owns Dallas TV station KDAF-TV (Channel 33), the city's CW affiliate, so the purchase would mean new ownership for the station.

President Donald Trump responded to media critics by praising Sinclair in a Tweet as "far superior to CNN and even more Fake NBC, which is a total joke".

Trump tweeted his support for Sinclair after the release of the Deadspin compilation video.

"It is ironic that we would be attacked for messages promoting our journalistic initiative for fair and objective reporting, and for specifically asking the public to hold our newsrooms accountable", said Sinclair senior vice president for news Scott Livingston, according to the press release.

White House approves $1.3B artillery sale to Saudi Arabia
Trump lauded the Saudis military prowess, noting the country's defense coffers could be a boon for American weapon-makers. Israeli newspaper Haaretz, reporting on the comments, said Saudi Arabia does not officially recognize Israel.

Case in point, yesterday NY magazine's Daily Intelligencer posted a new story outlining a series of emails the outlet had exchanged with Smith regarding his feelings about print media-namely newspapers and magazines.

Sinclair, which owns or operates 193 stations and is the nation's largest broadcaster, provided the script.

"We're concerned about the troubling trend of irresponsible, one-sided news stories plaguing our country", the Sinclair script said. John Oliver discussed this on his show Last Week Tonight months ago, and commented on it today as it has resurfaced since the Deadspin post, calling the group a "brainwashed cult".

Several journalists have told CNN's Brian Stelter that they are against the video promos, but Stelter noted that so far no one has actively fought against it.

Over the weekend, the telecommunications company became the subject of ire once more thanks to a pre-written script that's made its way into Sinclair broadcasts. "Sinclair Broadcast will also pull news coverage on those stations in a more conservative direction and explore giving full rein to those beliefs on a national platform".

But this outing of Sinclair doesn't harm democracy; it's good for it.

In exchange, Sinclair would broadcast their Trump interviews across the country without commentary, Kushner said.
