"Cruze is a cornerstone of Chevrolet's vehicle strategy, bringing new customers to the brand", said Steve Majoros, Chevrolet marketing director for Cars and Crossovers.

Cars are important part of today's industry retail and fleet markets, and represent a quarter of the industry's retail market. For 2019, Chevy is ditching the six-speed automatic that now transmits power from the standard 1.5-liter turbocharged I4, replacing it with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The RS trim gets 18-inch machined wheels, black sport grille, black bowtie emblems, rear spoiler, and dual-outlet exhaust. The 2019 Chevrolet Malibu features a freshened exterior design, improved technology, and a new trim level.

Chevrolet's 49-mpg Malibu Hybrid carries on for 2019, as well. Revised grille designs reinforce Cruze's premium appearance.

The 2019 Spark gets a slight facelift that includes the addition of more chrome in the grille to give it a more upscale look. Additionally, the Cruze lineup has been broadened with the addition of the entry-level LS trim for the Cruze hatchback.

We talked three days ago and I asked [G.T.], 'Do you want to hit a ball on No. 9?' I said, 'You're going to make a hole-in-one. Nicklaus called it the "No. 1" moment in his golf career, which included winning 18 majors.

In presenting the update at Chevrolet's rah-rah dealer meeting in Las Vegas, Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet, said, "We are committed to offering consumers a full lineup of products with fresh designs, new technologies and efficient powertrain options". The Spark is available in LS, LT, 2LT and Activ trims, the latter raises the ride height by 0.4 inches. All trims feature standard air conditioning, 10 standard airbags and a rear-vision camera system.

When it comes to connectivity, Spark delivers a standard Chevrolet infotainment system featuring phone integration compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a limited trial of OnStar and connectivity access at no additional cost, plus access to the MyChevrolet mobile app. It goes on sale later this year.

The rework may not be earth-shattering in the scheme of things, but it did prove Chevrolet believes the compact and mid-sized sedan markets are not yet dead - these segments still account for 27 per cent of the brand's sales, which is a significant number given the monumental sales plummet the lowly sedan has experienced in the past couple of years.
