Education activist Malala Yousafzai has returned to her hometown in Pakistan for the first time since she was shot in the head by the Taliban in 2012.

Malala was accompanied by her father Ziauddin Yousafzai, family members and State Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb among others as she travelled from Islamabad to Swat via helicopter after a security clearance was issued.

It had been uncertain whether Ms. Yousafzai would be able to visit Swat, parts of which spent nearly two years under Pakistani Taliban militants' harsh interpretation of Islamic law, due to continued concerns for her safety.

Later she visited the Swat Cadet College where she met the students and said that she was happy that she was visiting Swat which was the most lovely place in the world.

Security was tight around her former home, now rented by a family friend, Mr Farid-ul-Haq Haqqani, who has kept Ms Yousafzai's room intact with her books, school trophies and luggage. In 2012, a masked gunman boarded her school bus, singled her out and shot her.

As per a report, officials from her Malala Fund group are travelling with her.

She also posted some aerial pictures of Swat valley from the helicopter with the caption: "Swat is the most lovely place on the earth".

"I am grateful to Malala for her invaluable efforts to promote education, a task our leaders failed to accomplish", said a shopkeeper in Shangla, whose three daughters, now go to school. She was riding home in her school van.

Swansea City hope to continue remarkable record against Manchester United
They have more hard games to come in the run in against Manchester City at the Etihad and Chelsea at the Liberty Stadium. He does at least give The Swans credit for our fightback in the second half. "We let it go a little bit".

After the Pakistani army drove out the Taliban in mid-2009 she became a symbol for girls' education through a blog she wrote for the BBC's Urdu service, which started while the Taliban were still in power, and a documentary "Class Dismissed", that profiled her.

The 20-year-old expressed her faith in the Pakistani youth's ability and passion to bring a change.

Ms. Yousafzai also visited a local hotel and a college near Mingora.

"They are lucky to have many role models like you [Hamid Mir] to follow", she told the interviewer. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 at the age of 17 for her dedication to the cause.

However she has also been met with pockets of intense criticism. Even though she only spent few days there as Malala could still be vulnerable to extremists threat.

"Malala is not afraid of going to Swat, where the terrorists opened fire on her in 2012 and wounded her". "Don't think about me".

Yousafzai praised the Pakistan army in an interview on the independent Geo news channel Friday for providing her timely medical treatment, saying her surgery was done by an army surgeon at the "right time" and she later received post-trauma treatment in Britain. I don't want any favour or I don't want everyone to accept me.

A hospital, being built by Malala Fund, will enable women from getting treatment in their locality instead of traveling outside the village, she informed.
