West Indies will be playing their Twenty20 matches at the Pakistan National Stadium in Karachi.

Although it was a domestic T20 final, several foreign players including former West Indies captain Darren Sammy, South Africa's JP Duminy and Luke Ronchi of New Zealand took part and were provided with nearly presidential-like security.

Authorities said the intense security measures would mirror those put in place for the recent Pakistan Super League final, also staged in Karachi.

Chairman of the CWI Selection Panel, Courtney Browne, said some of the players identified for selection, including regular T20I captain Carlos Brathwaite, had opted out of the tour due to security concerns. What makes the series special is it will mark the first time that Karachi has hosted any worldwide matches since 2009.

It has been nine years since Karachi last hosted global cricket and the city is expected to come out in force to back the home side.

"This is a great occasion", said Sarfraz, the only player in the squad who has played a limited over worldwide in Karachi before.

Sarfraz said he hoped his team would keep the momentum.

As the West Indies cricket team could not get all seats in one flight it was made a decision to travel in two groups through different flights from Dubai to Karachi. The credit goes to the PCB and our agencies the way they organised PSL matches. "I request all the people to come and support cricket".

Global cricketers stopped playing in Pakistan after the 2009 assault, citing safety concerns, and the national team has had to play its home matches in the United Arab Emirates since.

"If you look at the success rate of the Pakistan team over the last two years, the bowlers [have] performed very well", he said. The batting is centred around Fakhar Zaman, Shoaib Malik and Babar Azam, while the bowling is led by Mohammad Amir and Hasan Ali, with a new sensation in the 17-year-old fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi likely to make his debut. Asif Ali, Hussain Talat and Shaheen Afridi have all been named in the squad, with each player possessing tantalising possibilities.

All-rounder Jason Mohammed has been called in to lead the notably weakened 13-man West Indies national side in the three-match T20I series against Pakistan, beginning April 1 at the Karachi's National Stadium.
