DECLAN Donnelly acknowledged Ant McPartlin's absence as he opened Saturday Night Takeaway on its return.

Dec joked at the start of tonight's show saying: "We have got a jam-packed show, this week we have lots to cram in and twice the amount of work to do".

A forthcoming TV show featuring Ant and Dec is reported to have been put on hold as it features the duo drinking alcohol.

One fan said: "No matter what you think about the whole situation, there is no denying that Dec did a brilliant job and handled it all very well".

"I know Ant would be proud of you".

Show regulars Scarlett Moffatt and Stephen Mulhern will also take on greater presenting roles.

House seats when their congressional districts are redrawn every 10 years - depending on how fully their residents are counted. At least, that's more believable than the notion of Trump and Sessions attempting to protect minority voting rights.

The show - which was cancelled last Saturday - was labelled a success as Dec oversaw an nearly seamless live 90-minute show with his only mishap dropping a carton of popcorn.

Speaking about going it alone, Dec said in a statement: "Whilst I never thought I'd be in this position, after much discussion and careful consideration we've decided that the remaining two shows of this series of "Saturday Night Takeaway" will go ahead". The shift in line-up was alluded to a number of times during the broadcast, thanks in large part to Merchant who offered to exit his lofty recording booth and join Dec in front of the audience: "I can't help but notice a little bit of space on the stage there".

Paloma Faith closed the show in the End of the Show Show and the Script made an appearance for Singalong Live.

Dec, 42, who recently confirmed he is going to be a father, will also present next week's final episode in Florida.

Fellow host Ant McPartlin has been charged with drink driving following a traffic collision on Sunday March 18.

He will appear in court on April 4.
