Apple CEO Tim Cook has criticized Facebook's sloppiness in handling personal data that led to leak of more than 50 million users' personal information. Cook underscored that his company views privacy as a "human right" and "civil liberty".

"I think that this certain situation is so dire and has become so large that probably some well-crafted regulation is necessary", Cook said during a forum in Beijing over the weekend, according to Bloomberg.

Collins, who had earlier challenged Zuckerberg to "stop hiding behind his Facebook page", made his displeasure known, saying it was an "absolutely astonishing" decision to send a deputy in his place.

Facebook is Silicon Valley's punching bag du jour following the Cambridge Analytica crisis, and Apple's CEO just threw an uppercut.

Facebook, data, and privacy have been the topic of discussion all over the internet as well as out.

Trump calls Roseanne to congratulate her on show reboot

The data breach has prompted companies and business leaders to take a second look at how and what they do with the user data that they have access to. "However, I think we're beyond that", Cook continued. He follows that with: "We've elected not to do that". "We've been doing this for years". "Regulation can have unexpected consequences, right?" Apple has policies of what is and isn't allowed there, and so Hayes and Swisher pressed him on whether Facebook's privacy issues might lead Apple to do something with that power.

Cook has always been an outspoken advocate of privacy and encryption, refusing to aid the Federal Bureau of Investigation by creating a backdoor into an iPhone 5c which belonged to the gunman behind the San Bernardino shooting in December 2015, in which 14 people were killed on the basis it set a "dangerous prescedent".

There are some high profile names among the enraged and outspoken, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, who suggested that Facebook should be regulated at this point.

Apple may require Facebook to make its data harvesting intentions clearer to users in the App Store - this could be a way to inform people in a more obvious way about what they are actually agreeing to.
