Japan has sounded out the North Korean government about a bilateral summit, and Pyongyang has reportedly discussed the possibility of a leaders' meeting with Japan.

In another tweet, he said: "Received message last night from XI JINPING of China that his meeting with KIM JONG UN went very well and that KIM looks forward to his meeting with me".

A Japanese government source told Reuters in mid-March that Japan was considering seeking a summit between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Kim to discuss Japanese citizens abducted by North Korean agents decades ago.

North Korea has agreed to summit talks with South Korea in late April, and is also moving to arrange a meeting between Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump by the end of May.

The document also noted that the Japanese government has put out feelers on a possible summit, according to Asahi. It was reported that the two sides will be reviewing all bi-lateral aspects and will also give importance to the new areas of convergence of both the countries.

The document says that the meeting between Kim Jong Un and Abe could take place in Pyongyang in early June.

The Asahi quoted another unidentified source as saying North Korea's "dialogue partner on security issues is America" but that the country "can only hope for large-scale financial help from Japan".

The United States and Japan are "completely in sync" over North Korea and agree that it must abolish its medium- and short-range missiles as well as intercontinental and intermediate range ballistic missiles, Japan's foreign minister said on Tuesday.

"There are expectations in North Korea that Japan could provide an economic assistance package ranging anywhere between $20 billion to $50 billion (2.1 trillion yen to 5.3 trillion yen) once diplomatic relations are normalized", the source added.
