CNN Poll Shows Highest Approval for Trump in Nearly a Year

With a robust US economy, polls show that President Donald Trump's approval ratings are on the upswing, even as a majority of Americans still disapprove of his 14-month White House tenure. It seems that the president now has the highest approval rating in 11 months.

Some of President Trump's harshest critics slammed CNN's non-stop coverage of the Commander-in-Chief's alleged affair with a former adult actress this week; blasting the network's newest obsession and unloading on Anderson Cooper's "creepy interview".

Almost two-thirds of Americans approve of Trump's decision to meet with Kim (62% approve, 31% disapprove) and the President's overall approval for handling the situation with North Korea has climbed from a November low of 35% to 43% now. But CNN noted that Trump's current standing is only marginally lower than that recorded for President Ronald Reagan in the early 1980s and President Barack Obama in 2010 in the earliest stages of their two-term presidencies.

Amid Trump's twin sex scandals, most Americans polled, 63%, believe the women accusing Trump of extramarital affairs, while only 21% believe Trump. While about half of Americans (48 percent) approve of how the president is handling the economy, only 39 percent approved of how Trump handled foreign trade, including the enactment of steel and aluminum tariffs. Women are more apt than men to say they believe the women claiming affairs (70% to 54%) and that holds even among those who are Republicans or lean toward the Republican party (45% of women who consider themselves GOP or lean that way say they believe the women compared with just 25% of GOP and GOP-leaning men).

About six in 10 said that they do not see him as honest and trustworthy (59 per cent), that they were not proud to have him as president (59 per cent), and that he does not respect the rule of law (58 per cent).

Trump's Environmental Protection Agency Secretary Scott Pruitt and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson have both come under fire recently for frivolous spending in their departments. The poll has a margin of error of 3.7 percentage points.
