Suicide blast kills 4 near parliament in Somali capital

At least 14 people were killed in an explosion outside a busy hotel in Somalia's capital on Thursday that was followed by gunfire, police and rescue services said. "Terrorism will never diminish resilience of Somali people", the mission said in post on its Twitter account. Among the dead were two soldiers, officials said.

The blast site was located next to the Interior Ministry and just 200 meters (219 yards) away from the presidential palace.

The blast comes three days after at least 14 people were killed and 10 others wounded in a vehicle bomb blast near the Weheliye hotel on the busy Makka Almukarramah road.

Al-Shabab, which is fighting to overthrow Somalia's internationally recognised government, is frequently carrying out attacks in and around the capital.

Rahul Gandhi invokes Indira to seek Karnataka people's 'blessing' for polls
Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being a liar, he mocked the PM and said he carried a book to refer to his lies. The charge has been denied by the Congress, which instead accused the BJP of using the services of the disgraced firm.

Thursday's attack comes about a month after a twin auto bombing in Mogadishu left 38 people killed.

"Most of the casualties are. people who were spending time to take tea, there was devastation and buildings were damaged", Mohamednur Abdirahman told AFP News Agency.

The threat posed by al-Shabab reflects the struggle Somalian forces face in maintaining security in the country.

Concerns have been high over plans to hand over the country's security to Somalia's own forces, as a 21,000-strong African Union contingent begins a withdrawal that is expected to be complete in 2020. The effectiveness and accuracy of those drones has often been questioned, however.
