Rahul Gandhi invokes Indira to seek Karnataka people's 'blessing' for polls

Gandhi is on the fourth leg of campaign tour in Karnataka, covering Mandya, Mysuru and Chamarajnagar districts during his two-day visit.

With elections for the 224-member Karnataka assembly on the horizon, the state has witnessed frequent visits by national leaders, from both the Congress and the BJP.

Thanking the support Indira Gandhi received here post-Emergency period where she won the elections and subsequently shot back to power at the centre, Gandhi said they stood by his grandmother during her toughest days and helped her achieve a historic win from here.

Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being a liar, he mocked the PM and said he carried a book to refer to his lies.

The charge has been denied by the Congress, which instead accused the BJP of using the services of the disgraced firm.

The Prime Minister was also not addressing corruption cases of state unit president B.S. Yeddyurappa and diamond jeweller Nirav Modi, said Gandhi his 30-minute address delivered in Hindi and translated into Kannada by a party leader.

Attacking Modi, Gandhi said "when India looks at its prime minister, it wants to hear the truth and not speeches filled with hate". In 2016 a record 126 High Court were appointed were in one year- highest since independence. "There is only a year left for his rule and I would like to tell party workers that the same kind of rule is going to continue and Modi is going to lose the next election", he said.

During his interaction with students of Rajiv Gandhi Sanskrit University at Sringeri Mutt, he cited a 14-year-old boy's reply to his query on Dharma.

On Tuesday, Gandhi held public meetings in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada and interacted with the fishing communities of the coastal region and visited popular temples, dargahs and churches.
