Plastic particles found in bottled water

There is no evidence that consuming such small particles of plastic has any ill health effects

Researchers widely believed that the plastic came through the industrial process of bottling the water.

Sherri Mason, a chemistry professor at State University of NY in Fredonia, told BBC, that the idea behind the project was not to target certain brands. Peggy Apter of IN said to Orb Media, the non-profit journalism group that organized the bottled water study.

Of the 259 bottles tested, 17 had no particles.

Microbeads - tiny plastic beads found in some beauty products that were banned in the U.S.in 2015 - are another source of plastics in water.

According to a new study, from the 250 bottles of major brands that have been tested, 93% contain plastic particles.

This includes fragments of plastic that are used to make bottle caps.

Using a special dye, researchers were able to identify bits of plastic in the bottles that are invisible to the naked eye. "Between the microplastics in water, the toxic chemicals in plastics and the end-of-life exposure to marine animals, it's a triple whammy".

The study found "widespread contamination" in bottled water across nine countries. Researchers found an average of 10.4 microplastic particles per litre of bottled water using spectroscopic analysis.

Many water brands included in the study said they've conducted their own tests that show far fewer microplastics in their bottles. They were in lower quantities than found now in bottled water, making tap water the safer option. Manzar further stressed that plastic water bottles must not be used more than three times.

Tap water or bottled water?

Some academics responded with caution at the results, which aren't peer reviewed, saying that the human body could be able to cope with microplastics.

He decided that landing it in Central Park was too risky and was trained to do emergency landings in the river, the source said. "What we do know is that it was a photo flight, there were harnesses". "They worked very quickly, as fast as they could".

Plastics are present almost everywhere and can take hundreds of years to degrade, if at all.

"There are concerns with little particles could cause some damage another possibility will be that certain chemicals are bacteria or virus can attach themselves or relocated".

"It's not straightforward", said Prof.

The United Nations is also concerned by the report.

But, since this new study showed that bottled water is also contaminated with plastic particles, a simple question arises - Tap water or bottled water?

Mason said there is plastic pollution in all components of our environment, including the air, bodies of water, fish and sediment. The bottles analysed were taken from countries like India, US, China, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Lebanon, Kenya, and Thailand, reported The Guardian. It was shipped to the specialized lab at SUNY in Fredonia, N.Y.

Most microplastics are thought to pass through our systems, although very small particles (such as those found in the surveyed bottled water) may be absorbed into our organs, such as the liver and kidneys.

The developer of the Nile Red method agrees.

"This is pretty substantial", Mayes said. It said it could not understand how Prof Mason's study reached its conclusions. "The research results do not correspond to the internal analyses that we conduct on a regular basis".

Daily Mail Australia contacted Evian for comment. "There is still limited data on the topic, and conclusions differ dramatically from one study to another". He said that every company joined in an association must meet the national standards of quality required by the government. Leading global brands in this study included Aquafina, Dasani, Evian, Nestle Pure Life, and San Pellegrino. What are the effects that those are having? But plastic bottled water drinkers have it worse. But for other products, there is no choice.
