Telangana Legislative Council Ruckus: Chairman K. Swamy Goud's Eye Hurt After Congress Members Hurl Mike

The MLAs had stormed the House, torn papers and threw headphones towards the chair, leaving legislative council chairman Swamy Goud injured in the eye. "We are not interested in attending the assembly sessions just for TA or DA", CLP leader K Jana Reddy said. The TRS government was considering whether to suspend the Congress members or to expel them from the House. The Budget session will last till March 27.

Reacting to the Governor's speech, Deputy Floor Leader of the Congress N. Uttam Kumar Reddy faulted the Governor for devoting all his speech to promote the government. Speaker Madhusudhana Chari stated that the punishment they were given is so less for what they did.

Soon after the House assembled Legislative Affairs minister Mr T Harish Rao read two separate motions dealing with expulsion and suspension.

"The decision is painful".

While the immediate step would be organising rallies and dharnas all over the state and burning the effigies of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, majority of the Congress members felt that they should resign from their seats and go for fresh mandate from the people. The government did not respond.

Congress MLAs disrupted Governor E. S. L. Narasimhan's speech in the Telengana Assembly on Monday.

When The Statesman met Mr Harish Rao, he said, "They are now former legislators". The Governor, in his address, said the state had clocked an average annual growth of 8.6 per cent of GSDP in the three-year period 2014-15 to 2016-17 which was much higher than the national average of 7.5 per cent. "It's understandable if a party wants to protest through slogans, placards, staging dharnas or even tearing the Governor's address". Komatireddy Venkat Reddy was seen on Assembly footage throwing headphones at the Governor. "Hence, we staged protests in the House to highlight the injustice meted out to our region", he said.
