Apple Music continues to grow, but aims for 2 billion subscribers

Spotify has launched in South Africa. In Israel, Spotify faces competition from worldwide streaming services such as Apple Music, Deezer, and Tidal, as well as local services offered by Israel-based cellular carriers.

The South African pricing is a significant discount to what Spotify users pay in the US. Spotify is offering a one month free trial as did Apple Music, although Deezer is offering a three months free trial, according to Globes.

Byers then discussed how, unlike video streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, the dominant music services have more or less the same millions of tracks as each other, forcing them to lean on UX and distribution rather than content alone for differentiation.

Louisville Cardinals vs. Virginia Cavaliers Free Preview 03/08/18
The Cards could've solidified their NCAA chances last Thursday when they outplayed No. 1 Virginia for 39 minutes and 59.1 seconds. Boston College has won two games in the ACC Tournament for the first time and now faces a Clemson team that is fresh.

There's no doubt that when it comes to streaming services, Spotify's leading the pack. And with Spotify's 159 million free listeners who also listen to ads, it's clear that this new concept of radio may have a long ways to go before saturation. And all those people putting down $9.99 a month adds significantly to Apple revenue as streaming services have become the top way to listen to music. Google Play Music has a free tier in the United States, but not locally.

Amazon Music Unlimited has over 16 million paid subscribers, Pandora Media has 5.48 million subscribers but Google has not disclosed the paid subscriber amount for its Google Play Music service.

Spotify has today gone live in South Africa, Israel and Vietnam, meaning that the platform is now available in 64 countries worldwide. This begs the question: what will publications and influencers be subjected to at its official "launch event" on 13 March?
